Big Bend

The neighbourhood of Big Bend can be found in the city of Burnaby, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.


Cars are a great means of transportation in this part of the city. Parking is quite easy. This neighbourhood also features a reasonably good public transit system. Residents benefit from a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally just around the corner. The bike is a fairly poor method of transportation in Big Bend as riding a bicycle is rendered arduous by the typically steep area, and the cycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive. It is also at times challenging for pedestrians to get around in Big Bend because few daily needs can be met on foot.


It is often possible for house buyers in Big Bend to shop for groceries on foot. A small selection of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well. As far as education is concerned, there are only a few high schools in this neighbourhood and thus they can be an extended walk away. In addition, Big Bend does not contain any primary schools. Moreover, it can be challenging to reach daycares as a pedestrian.


Big Bend offers a calm ambience and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. Access to public green spaces, like Marshland Avenue Bog Forest and Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park, is very easy from the majority of locations within the neighbourhood since there are approximately 10 of them nearby for residents to check out. This area is also quiet, as the streets are usually peaceful - however some parts can be quite noisy, especially closer to one of the railway lines.


Townhouses are the main housing type, representing roughly one third of dwellings in Big Bend, but duplexes and single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. This part of Burnaby is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and the rest are renters. Around 40% of properties in this area were built after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
