Centre Island

Situated within the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Centre Island is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario.


Centre Island is very car friendly. It is very convenient to find a place to park. However, the public transit service in this area is quite bad. Commuting by bicycle is easy in this part of the city as there are a limited number of hills for cyclists to brave. However, it is very inconvenient for pedestrians to move around in Centre Island because common amenities such as post offices or hardware stores can be a very long walk away.


A vehicle is almost always needed in Centre Island to access the nearest grocery store. Residents of this area are served by a few restaurants as well. When it comes to education, in Centre Island, parents and their kids will often be able to reach daycares on foot. In contrast, Centre Island does not have any primary schools or high schools.


Centre Island is a good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. Most areas in this area are reasonably quiet, as the streets are usually quite tranquil - however noise can be an issue near the airport (YTZ). Lastly, greenery is very present in this part of Toronto; green spaces, including Island Park and Hanlan's Point Park, are very well-distributed and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to discover, resulting in them being very easy to reach from most locations in the neighbourhood. Residents will also find that numerous streets have excellent tree coverage.


Single detached homes and townhouses are the main housing type in Centre Island. This neighbourhood experienced its biggest building boom pre-1960, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This part of the city offers mainly three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Roughly 85% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 15% are renters.
